Heating Problem

ok,the front window keeps steaming up,put heater on doesnt do anything,at times yo can see the steam coming up through the vent,its a `96 2.0l auto,any ideas as to why its doing it?

Hi could be something simple like the scuttle drains blocked or your heater matrix is leaking? have you lost or losing coolant? does the level keep going down. :(

levels are ok,how do you unblock the drains?where we ppark there are trees and leave crap all over the car!also when we had to have water pump replaced the guy said the thermostate had gone,would it be this causing it?

Hi again you will then need to remove the scuttle tray located under the wiper motor its held on by three bolts once that is remove it will give you better access you will then need an old wire coat hanger to dig out the drain holes on each side then wash the holes down with hose or can, water should be seen coming out behind plasti wheel arch.

You mentioned the thermostat is the engine running cold or is it overheating?

not sure,seems ok if that makes sense but im usless with this stuff!lol i guess it maybe overheating slightly,could it be too much heat coming up from the engine?water is ok,doesnt need topping up,heating works when you put it on,it was really dusty tho today when we put it on.

There is also the possibility that you dont have the filter installed due to poor servicing, wouldn't be the first time and would also give you dusty damp air.

 

Good advise above though, certainly sounds like you have a blocked drain - only thing I would say is that you should wrap lots of insulation/selo/gaffer tape around the end of the coat hanger - the last thing you want to do is damage the underseal down in the scuttle or the back of the wing, considering the amount of water that (should) pass through the holes it'll rust in no time if you do!

hi Hopefully then you havn't got a matrix problem you need to check them drain holes could be full of dead leaves an rubbish which will cause rainwater to enter the heater giving off steam when engine warms up, if its got aircon worth changing pollen filter while scuttle is out.

thanks guys,will pick up new filter tomorrow and unblock the pipes,will let you know how we get on,been raining loads today!
